HomePageWelcome to CSCS's Soc (Google Summer of Code) Pages The Center for the Study of Complex Systems (CSCS) is a broadly interdisciplinary unit within the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA) of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. CSCS's mission is to encourage and facilitate research and education in the general area of nonlinear, dynamical and adaptive systems. Participating faculty represent nearly every college of the University. The Center is based on the recognition that many different kinds of systems which include self-regulation, feedback or adaptation in their dynamics, may have a common underlying structure despite their apparent differences. For more information about CSCS and its research, educational and other activities, please visit the CSCS website. Computational modeling of complex systems is a core activity carried out by CSCS faculty and students. Courses on "agent based modeling" and other computational modeling techniques are part of CSCS's core curricula, and computational models are a key part of almost all student (e.g., dissertation) and faculty research projects. The three projects we list forSoc 2009 involve computational modeling. The first "GridSweeper" project, which is a continuation of a Google SoC-2006-8 project, involves building a tool to facilitate running computational models across distributed machines. The second project, "TFACES" (Tools for Analysis of Computational ExperimentS), which we started in 2008, involves writing generic tools for analyzing common types of data sets generated by computational experiments involving agent-based models of various kinds. The third project area involves writing software to implement Agent-Based Models on GP-GPU's. See the pages below for more details on these projects. Thanks to the Google Summer of Code project for providing support for student interns to work on this projects. http://code.google.com/opensource/gsoc/2009/faqs.html Google's 2009 Flyer / 2009 Logo |
