  • The CSCS Academic Business Consortium (ABC)

    About the CSCS's ABC

The CSCS Academic Business Consortium (ABC) is a group consisting of faculty associated with the UM Center for the Study of Complex Systems (CSCS) and scientists, managers and executives from South-Eastern Michigan area firms who share a joint interest in developing increasing understanding of complex systems. In general our approach is fairly quantitative. Most researchers in our group (academic and business) use computer simulations or mathematical models.

The ABC plan's to get together at monthly or bi-monthly intervals to share research, methodologies, findings, and just to get to know each other better. (Already two of our members have pursued a project in which they have common interests.) We plan to take turns meeting at the University of Michigan and at the sites of corporate members. The scheduled meetings (past and present) include:

    • "Harnessing Complexity: Organizational Implications of a Scientific Frontier," Prof. Michael Cohen, UM School of Information. Thursday, November 9, 2000. 5pm, Erlicher Room, 411 West Hall, UM. Following the talk will be a light hors d'oeurves reception.

    • Meeting at Ford Research Laboratory, Dearborn, MI, Feb 8, 2001, including Lab Tours (4pm) and talks (5pm) and pizza dinner (6pm).

    • Meeting at GM Research & Development Center, Warren, MI, June 11, 2001, including talks (4pm) and pizza dinner (6pm).

    • Next meeting TBA.
