The following are short courses that are relevant to the study of complex
systems. These courses are not all taught by CSCS, so inquiries should be
directed to the departments or instructors offering the particular courses.
This list is by no means complete. It just reflects the courses about
which we have been told. If you know of other relevant courses, please

This course is
open to undergraduate and graduate students.
"These lecture will guide the participants through the efforts of
anthropologists to clarify some fundamental issues of cultural
evolution. Among these are (1) the responses of foragers (or
hunter-gatherers) to uncertainty and risk, (2) The emergence of
networks of competition and conflict among early villages, and (3) steps
toward the emergence of political hierarchies in early chiefdoms and
states. Participants are urged to download the course materials from
to prepare themselves for this opportunity. "

and then you will have to go to the Office of the Registrar to actually
enroll in the course since online registration is closed.
